Great Expeditions East Africa was started by Kalema Hasifa (Cate), who moved into tourism after several years working across the region, with the aim of making East Africa travel more affordable. From an office on Makerere Road in Kampala the company sells primate and wildlife safaris in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania, plus longer trips to Namibia and Botswana, and backs a local education centre.
